A digital future to protect the standards of safety in construction
CSCS is the leading skills certification scheme in UK construction, with 1.5 million cards in circulation.
About CSCS
Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) is the UK’s leading card scheme for the construction sector, with around 1.5 million current cardholders and some 400,000 new applications processed each year. CSCS cards verify that individuals have the right qualifications and training for the work they carry out on construction sites.
The Challenge
CSCS faced multiple operational and strategic challenges. A large volume of cardholder applications was managed through manual, paper-based processes. Legacy technology systems were reaching end-of-life and limiting the organisation’s ability to innovate and respond to industry requirements.
The organisation needed to modernise its entire technology estate, digitise its operations, and prepare for future growth — all while maintaining service continuity and meeting the needs of 38 card schemes that relied on the CSCS platform.
The Solution
StableLogic was appointed to lead CSCS’s digital transformation programme. The engagement covered technology strategy, platform selection, business process redesign, and programme delivery management.
Key workstreams included migrating the core platform to a modern, cloud-based architecture, digitising the application and renewal processes, implementing a new CRM and case management system, and redesigning the contact centre operation to support digital-first interactions.
The Results
The programme delivered a fundamental shift in how CSCS operates:
- End-to-end digitisation of the cardholder application journey
- Modern, scalable cloud platform replacing legacy infrastructure
- Significant reduction in manual processing and administrative overhead
- Improved data quality and reporting capabilities
- A platform designed to accommodate future scheme requirements and industry changes
